Doubletee Products is a small manufacturing business dedicated to providing quality products to aircraft manufacturers, builders, restorers and owners.  Most of these products have been created when a need is identified and the right product simply isn’t available.  It is a private company and owned by an Aeronautical Engineer, pilot, and owner of several rare and antique aircraft.

HISTORY OF THE PRODUCT

 In 1991 a 1953 M18 Mooney Mite was purchased needing restoration. In the central area of the firewall was a hole approximately 1½  inches in diameter through which most of the cables, controls, tubes and wires  passed.  A “mud” of asbestos had been formed around the hole and wrapped with black cloth tape.    Several of the controls had short radius and “S”  turns which compromised the integrity of the system.  A better solution had to be found and was the “Eyeball” spherical metal grommet.

The spherical metal grommet product addresses  safety and reliability issues.  It addresses the issue of heat intrusion through a firewall in the event of an engine compartment fire, and the need to pass controls, etc. through a firewall at angles of much less than 90 degrees.

The conventional rubber grommet can do neither since when exposed to high temperatures they fail and expose a larger hole for fire and or heat intrusion into the cabin area.  The metal grommet greatly reduces this problem.  

Tight engine compartments may require tight turns of tach cables and other controls that can adversely affect their performance and function.  The spherical metal grommet allows firewall penetrations of up to 50 degrees from perpendicular.
